Custom Lathe Cut Vinyl Records: Packaging Options and U.S.-Made Materials
When ordering custom lathe cut vinyl records, packaging matters — but so does focus.
Many vinyl websites attempt to operate as full accessory warehouses, offering endless colored jackets, bulk sleeves, and commodity add-ons. We take a different approach.
We are a manufacturing service first. Our priority is precision cutting, short-run production, and consistent record quality.
This article explains what comes standard with our custom lathe cut vinyl records, where our packaging materials are sourced, and why we intentionally keep our accessory offerings disciplined.
What Comes Standard With Our Custom Lathe Cut Vinyl Records
Every record we cut includes a white paper record jacket as standard.
We use archival-quality, acid-free heavyweight paper inner sleeves with center hole for 12″, 10″, and 7″ formats. These sleeves are selected to protect the record surface while allowing label visibility and long-term storage stability.
White center labels are available upon request.
For clients ordering our Make a Vinyl Record package, we include:
-
White or black jacket with spine
-
Full printed artwork
-
A finished, presentation-ready record
This ensures that even single-copy or short-run vinyl projects arrive complete and professionally packaged.
U.S.-Made Packaging Materials
Our primary packaging supplier is Square Deal Recordings & Supplies, located in San Luis Obispo, California.
Their paper jackets and sleeves are manufactured in the United States using domestic production facilities that have supplied independent record labels and vinyl manufacturers for decades.
We intentionally source U.S.-made materials to maintain quality consistency and support domestic production standards.
Their materials also maintain the classic white-label and dubplate aesthetic often associated with short-run vinyl releases.
Why We Don’t Compete in the Commodity Packaging Market
Standard record jackets, sleeves, and accessories operate in a global commodity market driven by bulk distribution and scale pricing.
Large retail platforms specialize in high-volume sales of plain colored jackets, bulk inner sleeves, adapters, and general packaging supplies. Because of their distribution scale, those platforms can often offer lower pricing for standard stock items.
We understand that many independent artists work within tight budgets. If a standard, unprinted jacket is widely available at a lower cost through a large retailer, it may make practical sense to source those items directly.
Adding small markups to commodity packaging does not meaningfully help artists release their music to fans.
Rather than competing in that margin-driven accessory space, we focus our resources on what we manufacture in-house: custom lathe cut vinyl records and short-run vinyl production.
Expanding into a broad accessory catalog would increase inventory overhead and shift operational attention away from record cutting and production standards.
That tradeoff does not serve our customers.
White Jackets as a Flexible Creative Foundation
A white paper jacket is not a limitation — it is a versatile base.
For short-run vinyl projects, white sleeves allow artists and labels to:
-
Mount printed artwork
-
Screen print directly on the jacket
-
Apply stamped logos
-
Use adhesive wraparound designs
-
Hand-number and sign copies
-
Maintain a clean white-label presentation
For independent artists, this flexibility often makes more sense than committing to large minimum print quantities of custom-colored stock.
If you prefer fully printed jackets with spine text and finished artwork, our Make a Vinyl Record package provides that option.
