Introducing PETG VR: A New Chapter for American Lathe Cutting

For years, one thing frustrated us.

If you wanted clear virgin PETG, there were plenty of suppliers. Standard virgin clear PETG has been used successfully for diamond groove cutting for years and remains an excellent material.

But there wasn't a dependable USA-made black PETG record blank developed specifically for diamond cutting.

We wanted to change that.

Our goal wasn't simply to produce another plastic record blank.

Our goal was to develop a specialized virgin resin formulation engineered specifically for diamond groove cutting and help build a dependable American supply chain for the lathe-cut community.

That journey became PETG VR.

What Does PETG VR Mean?

The VR in PETG VR stands for Virgin Resin and Vinyl Record.

It represents both where the material begins and where it ends.

Every PETG VR blank starts as a specialized virgin resin formulation and finishes as a lathe-cut record.

From Virgin Resin...

To the Vinyl Record.

That is PETG VR.

More Than Standard PETG

PETG VR is not simply standard virgin PETG with black pigment added.

It is a specialized virgin resin formulation selected specifically for the demands of diamond groove cutting.

Every part of the material was chosen with record manufacturing in mind.

Our objectives were simple:

  • Exceptional groove quality

  • Reliable stereo cutting

  • Consistent sheet-to-sheet performance

  • Clean CNC machining

  • Long practical diamond life

  • Professional-quality finished records

The record blank is more than something that holds a groove.

It is part of the cutting system.

Just as important as the cutterhead.

Just as important as the stylus.

Just as important as the mastering.

Every component works together to create the finished record.

A Five-Ton Commitment

Developing PETG VR required a significant commitment.

Custom-colored PETG in the United States is typically produced in 10,000-pound (5-ton) manufacturing runs.

For a niche industry like lathe-cut records, that represents a major investment.

After years of planning, testing, and commitment, we're proud to offer PETG VR—made in the USA.

Our goal was never simply to create another black plastic sheet.

Our goal was to create a specialized virgin resin record blank engineered specifically for modern diamond groove cutting.

Designed for Diamond Cutting

PETG VR was developed alongside the AccuPoint A145 diamond cutting stylus.

We believe the blank and the stylus should work together as one complete cutting system.

A precision diamond deserves a precision cutting surface.

Together, PETG VR and the AccuPoint A145 are designed to provide:

  • Clean groove formation

  • Excellent stereo performance

  • Consistent cutting results

  • Reliable groove inspection

  • Reduced variation between blanks

  • Long practical diamond life

Our long-term goal is to achieve the longest practical diamond life while producing records with exceptional groove quality.

Precision Manufactured

Every PETG VR blank begins as a full-size sheet of specialized virgin resin.

Each blank is precision CNC machined to its final dimensions.

After machining, every blank receives polished edges, giving it a clean, professional finish before the first groove is ever cut.

Because every blank is CNC machined, we can produce one-off records, prototypes, short runs, and production quantities with excellent consistency.

Built for One-Step Record Manufacturing

PETG VR was developed specifically for single-step record manufacturing.

Unlike traditional pressed records that require metal stampers and multiple manufacturing stages, a lathe-cut record is created directly from the finished blank in one continuous cutting process.

That makes the quality and consistency of the material incredibly important.

We believe a specialized virgin PETG resin is one of the best materials available for this style of record manufacturing.

Building an American Supply Chain

For many years, American lathe cutters have depended on overseas suppliers for specialty record-cutting materials.

International shipping, import duties, tariffs, currency fluctuations, and long lead times can all increase costs and make materials harder to obtain.

One of our goals with PETG VR is to provide a dependable USA-made alternative while continuing to support the worldwide lathe-cut community.

Our first priority is the traditional black record. By manufacturing PETG VR in the United States, we hope to provide our own shop—and other American lathe cutters—with consistent access to premium record blanks, competitive pricing, and reliable availability.

The same specialized virgin resin formulation can be produced in virtually any color. The challenge isn't creating new colors—it's meeting the 10,000-pound (5-ton) minimum production requirement for each color. As demand grows, we look forward to expanding the PETG VR line while maintaining the same commitment to quality.

We also plan to make both PETG VR record blanks and AccuPoint Diamond Styli available worldwide. International shipping is something we're actively working on, and we're taking the time to build a system that is reliable, affordable, and practical for customers around the globe.

Whether you're cutting records in the United States, Europe, Asia, Australia, or anywhere else, our goal is simple:

To provide premium materials and precision tools that help move the art of diamond groove cutting forward.

Looking Toward the Future

PETG VR represents much more than another product in our catalog.

It represents years of testing, planning, and investment in the future of lathe cutting.

Alongside AccuPoint Diamond Styli, we hope to continue improving every part of the cutting process.

Better materials.

Better tools.

Better grooves.

Better records.

Our goal has always been simple:

Give cutters access to professional materials engineered specifically for diamond groove cutting.

From Virgin Resin to Vinyl Record

Every great record starts long before the music reaches the groove.

It starts with the material.

The mastering.

The cutterhead.

The amplifier.

The stylus.

The cutting angle.

The heat.

The vacuum.

The operator.

Every detail matters.

PETG VR was created because we believe the record blank deserves the same level of engineering as every other part of the cutting system.

From Virgin Resin...

To the Vinyl Record...

From the first CNC cut...

To the polished edge...

To the first groove...

Welcome to PETG VR.

Made in the USA.

Engineered specifically for diamond groove cutting.
