Real Records • Made One at a Time

Make a Vinyl Record

Making a real, playable record is no longer limited to major labels or large factory runs. We cut records one at a time using professional lathe systems — giving artists, producers, and collectors direct access to a physical format built from an actual groove.

What Does It Mean to Make a Vinyl Record?

Your audio is physically engraved into a disc by a cutting stylus. This creates a true groove that can be played back on a turntable. It provides access to physical releases without factory-scale minimums — while preserving the tactile character people expect from a real record.

Ideal For

Independent artists • limited releases • dubplates • short-run labels • archival recordings • spoken word • direct-to-disc sessions • collector editions

If your goal is to hold your music in your hands — not just upload it — you are in the right place.

How the Process Works

1) Send Your Audio

Upload your finished masters — or request disc mastering if you want us to handle sequencing and cut prep.

2) Choose a Format

Select the size and presentation that matches your project (5×7, 7", 10", or 12").

3) We Prepare the Cut

Level control, groove spacing strategy, and side layout are managed before cutting begins.

4) Cut in Real Time

Each record is created individually — not duplicated.

5) Secure Packaging

Packed for protection and shipped with care appropriate for archival media.

Made to order. No factory queues. No large minimum orders.

Professional Audio Matters

Records are mechanical formats. Level control, frequency balance, and stereo handling all influence how a record performs. Your project can be cut from a finished master, but we also offer disc mastering for clients who want the best possible translation to the groove.

We regularly assist with

Side sequencing • runtime planning • master preparation • mono compatibility • groove spacing strategy

If you are unsure whether your audio is ready, we will guide you before cutting begins.

Who This Is Built For

Artists launching singles • bands producing limited runs • labels testing new material • producers creating reference discs • collectors commissioning one-off records • clients ordering meaningful gifts. One record or larger runs — the approach remains the same: careful, deliberate record production.

Why Lathe Cut?

Traditional plants often require large quantities and long lead times. Lathe cutting removes those barriers while preserving the essence of the format.

  • Release on your timeline
  • Avoid large minimum orders
  • Create truly limited editions
  • Maintain artistic control

Turnaround Time

Typical production time is approximately 3 weeks once all audio files, artwork, and order details have been received. Because each record is cut and assembled individually, complex artwork or revision requests may extend production slightly. If you are working against a deadline, we recommend contacting us before ordering.

When Does Production Begin?

Production begins once all required files have been received and approved. Orders missing audio or artwork remain on hold until materials are delivered.

File Upload, Audio & Artwork Requirements

Upload files using the Hot Pink uploader during checkout. If files exceed the upload limit, send them via WeTransfer to info@lathecutvinylrecords.com and include your order number.

Files must be fully downloadable — streaming links are not accepted.

Accepted files:

  • Audio — WAV or AIFF (preferred)
  • Artwork — PNG, JPG, PDF
  • ZIP — bundled assets

Audio requirements:

  • 44.1 kHz / 16-bit minimum
  • Up to 15 minutes per side
  • One audio file per side
  • Include track spacing (~2 seconds between songs unless seamless)

Stereo & Mono:
Stereo files are cut in stereo. Mono files are cut in mono. If mono compatibility is required for safe cutting, adjustments may occur during pre-mastering.

Required artwork sizes:

  • Jacket — 12″ × 12″ front and back
  • Center labels — 3.5″ diameter (Side A & Side B)

Templates are available upon request.

File naming:

  • Single disc — Artist_SideA.wav / Artist_SideB.wav
  • Double-disc — Artist_SideA.wav, Artist_SideB.wav, Artist_SideC.wav, Artist_SideD.wav

Upload limits:
Each checkout supports one record master. Multiple copies require only one upload. Different titles should be ordered separately or arranged as a label project.

Optional track lists or PQ sheets may be included as a PDF or text file.

Jacket Printing & Color Selection

Your artwork is printed as a full-size 12×12″ sticker and professionally applied to a record jacket with spine for a clean, retail-style presentation.

We stock both white and black jackets and select the option that best complements your artwork. If you have a preference, you are welcome to note it when submitting files. Final jacket pairing is determined during production to ensure the strongest visual result.

Will My Record Arrive Fully Assembled?

Yes. This edition is designed as a complete, presentation-ready package. Center labels are applied in-house, artwork is mounted to the jacket, and the record ships ready to play, gift, or display.

Audio Expectations

Your record is cut directly from the audio you provide. We do not automatically remix or remaster submissions, but free pre-mastering adjustments are included when necessary to support safe cutting and reliable playback. For best results, submit your highest-quality final mix.

Can I Request Changes After Submitting Files?

Changes may be possible only if production has not yet begun. Once a record enters the cutting queue, revisions are typically unavailable due to the one-at-a-time fabrication process. Contact us immediately if updates are required.
